1. DRAFT STRATEGIC PLAN FOR RESTORATION OF THE LOWER EAST FORK
It is anticipated that this November, a draft of the Strategic Plan for the Restoration of the Lower East Fork Lewis River will be released for local public and agency review and comments. The purpose of the plan is to develop a watershed and stream framework by which projects that restore the river and build fish and wildlife habitat can be developed.
The plan will contain draft restoration prescriptions for the 6 reaches delineated on the river between Lewisville Park and just above La Center near Mason Creek (about 7 river miles). From these, after review by local citizens and revision, projects can be developed and financing obtained for each reach of the stream. In addition, within each reach, the Plan will identify small projects that could be done next field season if local or grant funding can be obtained.
The Plan is being assembled from field data gathered last year by volunteers and members of FOE and with the professional support of Bob Delk, a nationally experienced hydrologist from Dover Habitat Restoration. A grant from the Lower Columbia Fish Recovery Board (LCFRB) is being used to cover part of the expenses.
There will be a meeting at the Dollars Corner fire station to show the local and other interested citizens what is in the draft and to solicit comments on how to improve the Plan.
